Dr. Christopher Gomez, an associate professor of "Kaiyo Anzen Koza" has been invited to the International Conference of Geography and Disaster Management (ICGDM2018) held at the University of Muhammadiyah Surakarta, Indonesia on 24-25 October as a keynote speaker. This opportunity arises from the internationally reknown research conducted by the faculties of Kobe University, and its engagement on the East-Asian stage, including local development in Indonesia. The ICGDM2018 will mainly focus on the importance of spatial analysis, applied GIS and remote sensing techniques.

Dr. Gomez talked about the real-time integration of 3D geophysics to 2D terrain acquisition, in order to deepen the understanding of geological hazards and associated disaster risk in Indonesia. He also announced the acceptance by Kobe University of a Memoredum of Understanding with UMS, which will allow students to do exchanges with Japanese students and also come and take lectures on state-of-the art knowledge and cutting-edge technologies.
