"Authorized absence" due to participation in volunteer activities

When you are participating in volunteer activities, such as in disaster training, you may receive an authorized absence for the classes that take place at the same time. Please refer to the following criteria for an absence to be recognized as an authorized absence.

  1. In principle, if you are absent from a class in order to participate in volunteer activities, such as disaster training, your absence will be treated as "authorized absence" with an upper limit of a total of one week per semester.
Should your absence exceed one week, you must obtain the permission of the teacher in charge of the class you will be absent from.
  2. When requesting an authorized absence, you must obtain the permission of your student counselor and the teacher in charge of the class, experiment or practical training, submit an application to the academic affairs section of Academic / Student Affairs Group, and receive the approval of the Dean of the Faculty at least three days prior to the relevant period. In addition, you must submit a report after completing the volunteer activities.
  3. Class subjects for which absences can be authorized are only class subjects provided by the Faculty of Maritime Sciences, and they cannot be authorized for the classes of other faculties or University-wide common class subjects.
  4. You must take out insurance covering the volunteer activities.
